Artist's Note on Portrait Painting – By Tejas Janardhan

As a fine artist, portrait painting is not just a study of faces—it’s an emotional journey into light, shadow, and human expression. Just like plein air landscapes, painting portraits from life or real references brings an energy that no photo filter can replicate. Working with traditional materials—watercolors, textured papers, brushes, and canvas—grounds me and refreshes my spirit. It’s a meditative break from the fast-paced world of digital comics and storytelling.
Each brushstroke carries the soul of the sitter and the temperament of the day. Whether under natural sunlight or studio lamp, observing subtle shifts in value and temperature teaches me more than any screen ever could.
These moments are mood changers—transformative, deeply human, and endlessly inspiring.
